Vision Statement:
On a hot, humid evening during the month of July, 1971, somewhere between twilight and dusk, an eerie mist rose above the green and yellowing grasses of the one-mile expanse of the defunct state-owned farm land known locally as the Piggery. A small group of Augusta East Little League officials, directors, and parents had spent the day working on various field maintenance projects.
Their early enthusiasm buoyed by its All-Star team's successes, which eventually lead to a berth in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the founders of what would one day become CARA, leaned against the first base fence facing east and collectively agreed it would be wonderful if the entire parcel could be developed into ball fields and recreational venues for area youth.
This moment was the symbolic birth of a local "Field of Dreams" that eventually grew to be the present-day CARA complex, a facility that stands alone in the nation in terms of size, varied use, comfort, safety, and natural beauty.
Mission Statement:
The Capital Area Recreation Association was created to provide recreational opportunities for all members of the area communities. Throughout the year, this complex promotes healthy development of children, builds a positive behavior environment for youth, and develops values such as responsibility, compassion, and respect for oneself and others of all ages.
